The Precaution To Take

There are different models of caps or bucket hat leather. For older ones, the visor is often made of cardboard, and therefore washing the cap will certainly damage it.

New caps do not pose a problem since their visors are made of plastic. However, care must be taken when cleaning to maintain their original shape. Better to use a brush with soft bristles or just use a sponge to avoid damaging the fabric, especially if it is a woolen cap.

Hand Wash Or Machine Wash?

You should know that you should never put your cap in your washing machine. You risk damaging it irreversibly. Instead, you can just put it in your dishwasher. The machine must first be emptied and the object placed in the upper compartment. All you have to do is run a cold water cycle.

Moreover, nothing is easier than washing by hand. Wet your brush or sponge with water and a cleaning product then gently rub the stained areas. For the interior headband, rub vigorously with a cloth soaked in soapy water.

For cotton, use hot or lukewarm water and cold water for wool. You can use  Marseille soap or dishwashing liquid. If there are stubborn stains, add baking soda. Hand washing is recommended to maintain the quality of your cap.

The Right Drying Method

Here too, we avoid the dryer and the hair dryer for drying your cap or appa bucket hat. After washing, take the time to wring the cap with a cloth and then let it air dry. To keep the shape of the visor, simply use support.

If the cap is still deformed, all you need to do is use steam. You will have to stuff it with white tissue paper (to prevent the colors from bleeding on the fabric) and place it over a pot of boiling water. You can also use a steam iron. You can then let it air dry.
